Keep your wits about you when searching for rental properties – don’t get conned out of your hard earned cash. Follow these tips:

• Always meet the landlord at the property you are going to view
• Never hand over a deposit without seeing the property first
• If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. If you are being offered a quality property at a knock down rent, ask yourself if it is genuine?
• Get contact details for the landlord or agent. If they are unwilling to provide their contact details ask yourself why.
• Always get a receipt
• If you have concerns, don’t hand over cash, offer to pay the deposit by bank transfer
