Providing References

The majority of landlords and estate agents will insist on written references, so what references are you expected to provide.

You will usually be expected to provide a minimum of two written references for each prospective tenant. One reference from a previous landlord, and a reference from your current employer. You may also be requested to provide a letter from your bank or copies of bank statements (to prove you can afford the rent). Agents and landlords will follow up to verify your references and if they do not check out you may lose your holding deposit.

It is also standard practice to provide proof of identification (e.g. passport or driving licence) and your PPS number.
